ArtWalk is a fun, casual celebration of art and community in downtown New Bern, held every second Friday of each month . It begins at 5pm and usually goes till 8pm–but on warm summer nights, it has been known to go on until 10 o’clock. You’re invited to stroll along the sidewalks, drop in on shops and galleries, and dine at one of many fine restaurants and lively taverns on your way.
Whether you love beach music, the glory days of crooners, or just want a way to help local veterans, nationally-known musicians from across the country are descending into New Bern this summer for the perfect mix of the three.
Bill Stafford of Stafford Entertainment & Talent and “Lewis n Clark,” made up of the married singing duo Von Lewis and Abbey Clark, are helping organize “Stars & Stripes,” a night of musical entertainment to benefit Whitehurst-Ware American Legion Post No. 539 in New Bern to celebrate the national organization’s 100th birthday.
The show, “Stars & Stripes,” is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center, 2000 Dr. M.L.K. Blvd. Tickets sales will open to the public on Aug. 1.

The event will feature beach music from The Embers’ co-founder Jackie Gore, and classic hits throughout the decades from Lewis n Clark, and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. – Murphy was the winner of “America’s Got Talent” in 2011 for his Frank Sinatra-like style.
MC for the event will be Miss North Carolina 1975 & Miss America Runner-Up, Connie Dorn Rist — who was involved in classic USO shows. Comedian William White of Washington, N.C.’s I.C. Improv will be co-hosting the event.
Attendees will be able to get autographs and photos with the talent following the show.
Folks Journal and City Stage New Bern are pleased to announce their 2019 events partnership in bringing New Bern an evening of Literature & Poetry every 3rd Tuesday from 7pm-9pm. Local poet and co-founder of FOLKS Journal Meg Wethington / Meg Wethington, Poet will be your host for the evening. Authors of all genres will be given 10 minutes to read on stage using a microphone from their works. Sign up begins at 6:30. Published authors will have the opportunity to have their books available for sale- authors, please bring your books and materials you will need to be responsible for the purchase/selling of any of your books. A table will be provided for display at the front of the stage where purchases can be made. The City Stage serves as the host venue for this free FOLKS Journal event. Local food and libations are readily served at the City Stage, lending itself to a particularly special evening with the written arts in downtown New Bern. Bring the family and your camping gear for a night under the stars at our Fall 2019 Spring Lanterns on the Lawn: A Family Campout on the Tryon Palace South Lawn to benefit the Tryon Palace Foundation.
Campers can reserve 15-foot square plots on the South Lawn for a campsite and set up for the evening. Setup begins 2:00–6:00 p.m. Saturday. The Tryon Palace Gardens and Garden Shop will remain open until dusk to allow campers to walk through the gardens, and purchase items from store.
Saturday evening activities will continue with crafts, lawn games, an All-American dinner buffet of hamburgers and hot dogs, making s’mores, a campfire sing-a-long, and a moonlit scavenger hunt in the Wilderness Garden with glow sticks.
Wake up on Sunday to a breakfast of coffee, juice, doughnuts, and fruit, followed by a family yoga session.
All camping equipment and other personal belongings must be removed by 10 a.m. Sunday.
Registration requires completion of Registration Form. Incomplete forms will not be processed. No one will be admitted unless properly registered. No refunds will be given for registration fees after September 6th.
For groups of up to four guests, $50 (Tryon Palace Foundation Members)/$60 (Nonmembers). For groups exceeding five guests, $90 (Tryon Palace Foundation Members)/$100 (Nonmembers). Campsites not to exceed eight guests. Children 5 and under are free and also not part of the campsite head counts.
