Minus2 is an innovative group with definitive style and substance. The brainchild of two talented brothers, Daryl and Eric Minus, Minus2 uniquely combines jazz, funk, gospel, and R&B elements into a soul-stirring, colorful collage of urban instrumental artistry.
Between the two of them, the Minus brothers have been creating and performing diverse musical styles for 30 years. The two began their musical journey as horn players in elementary school with Daryl deciding to study trumpet and Eric choosing to pursue the saxophone. After years of developing an instrumental foundation from their exposure to classical and jazz music, the undeniable influences of gospel and funk eventually became well known components of the Minus Repertoire. As their musical horizons broadened, the Minus brothers picked up new instruments: Daryl gravitated towards the piano, and Eric focused his energies on the bass, guitar, and drums. The evolution of the Minus2 sound has been years in the making. The Brothers have now come full circle to create a signature sound of their own, using all the music influences that have shaped their creative existence over the years. Minus2 is a group with a purpose: To build artistic bridges between musical genres.
The Minus brothers co-founded an independent record label, In Season Music Group (ISMG), LLC in December 2000. ISMG was developed to satisfy the growing demand for innovative contemporary jazz and gospel music and has grown to become a multi-dimensional business entity. Under the ISMG label, the brothers have released two instrumental projects as Minus2, four gospel albums with artist Derek Dunn, and have written/produced/performed songs with a variety of jazz, rock, funk, and gospel artists throughout the United States.

African American Lecture Series: “Music of Black Migrationers” @ North Carolina History Center | New Bern | North Carolina | United States

Music of Black Migrationers

Music is a mainstay in African American culture. From the banjo to African Griots to work songs that lifted our spirits, music gave us hope and kept us sane since landing in America. This program will entertain and remind us that so much of America’s music is tied to that of migrating African Americans.

PRESENTER: DICK KNIGHT & COMPANY shares music of southerners who escaped the violence and injustices of the South to forge better lives and lasting careers by migrating from the South. These people became the backbone of American Music.  Come enjoy performances of songs by a few of those great artists such as W. C. Hendy’s “Memphis Blues;” Wilbert Harris’s “Going to Kansas City;” Huddie Lead Belly’s “Midnight Special;” Bessie Smith’s “Give Me A Pig Foot and a Bottle of Beer;” Muddy Waters’s “Got my Mojo Working;” Nina Simone’s “Trouble-in-Mind;” and more.

Run/Walk for Sickle Cell
Mar 2 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Run/Walk for Sickle Cell @ Union Point Park | New Bern | North Carolina | United States

The Neuse Pamlico Sound Women’s Coalition, Inc. (NPSWC), a 501 (c) 3 organization of professional women, is excited to announce the 4th annual 5K Walk/Run for Sickle Cell on March 2, 2019.

We realize that in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, this is a difficult time. We also realize that the generous spirit of our community is alive and well and we are still passionate about this cause of assisting those with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). This year, our Early Bird registration fee has been reduced to only $25 for those who register before Feb. 2, 2019 and $20 for military members. (See below for additional special rates).

“Why Sickle Cell?”  Simple. SCD is a devastating blood disease affecting millions worldwide. Greater than 100,000 are here in America. SCD affects more than 5,000 patients and families in North Carolina, with approximately 80 infants being diagnosed in newborn screenings each year. The disease occurs in about 1 of every 365 African-American births and about 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American births. In addition, people with SCD have less access to comprehensive care than people with many other genetic disorders. That is why we plan to use the money in our local communities. Together we will assist with treatment, transportation and the expense of other daily challenges that come with battling Sickle Cell.

Your involvement will help highlight the importance of a community working together to make a positive difference in the lives of others. PLEASE REGISTER FOR THE MARCH FOR SICKLE CELL 5K WALK/RUN TODAY!
