ArtWalk is a fun, casual celebration of art and community in downtown New Bern, held every second Friday of each month . It begins at 5pm and usually goes till 8pm–but on warm summer nights, it has been known to go on until 10 o’clock. You’re invited to stroll along the sidewalks, drop in on shops and galleries, and dine at one of many fine restaurants and lively taverns on your way.

Join Tryon Palace in celebrating National Pollinator Week June 18-23. Throughout the week, learn about how to help pollinators with posters and take-home items, and meet the bees in our observation hive at the NC History Center. During National Pollinator Week, Hadley Cheris, Tryon Palace Gardens and Greenhouse Manager, will be leading daily tours of the Palace Gardens. During the tours, Cheris will be discussing our favorite pollinator plants and those pollinators that can be found on the grounds. Tours will take place on Tuesday, June 18 to Friday, June 21. All tours begin at 10 a.m. at the Waystation. “Pollinator Garden Tours” are free with purchase of One-Day, Galleries, or Gardens Pass.
Tryon Palace historic clothing interpreter Leslie Lambrecht will lead a tour of the historic Jones House with a brief description of the house and then through the Tryon Palace Costume Shop on the first floor of the house. The costumer will discuss historical clothing research, the sewing techniques used in the past, and current projects for upcoming events. Space is limited on each tour and flash photography is prohibited. Tours may involve walking and climbing stairs. The North Carolina Symphony Orchestra returns to Tryon Palace for its annual free concert on the picturesque South Lawn. This concert is presented in partnership with the New Bern series of the North Carolina Symphony. Gates open at 5 p.m., performance begins at 7:30 p.m. To enjoy music in this beautiful waterfront setting that borders the Trent River and is surrounded by beautiful gardens, Tryon Palace invites you to bring your own chairs, blankets, and dinner, but please leave pets and alcoholic beverages at home. The Great Trent River Raft Race is back AGAIN! In the 70’s and early 80’s there was an event…an event that drew thousands to the shore of the Trent River to watch a spectacle like no other. Hundreds of participants built homemade rafts and raced in The Great Trent River Raft Race. A couple of decades later the race is back! June 2018 saw the successful return of the race to New Bern NC – Folks from all over the State grabbed their paddle boards, jumped on their kayaks, built paddle and pedal rafts and got together with friends for a fantastic day of fun on the water! As part of the Great Trent River Raft Race, EOP will be there providing an epic water war and foam party!!!! Wear clothes that can get soaked and bring a towel….or two! The water war will run from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM. NOTE: You WILL get drenched! We will have two foam parties, each for 30 minutes: 1:00-1:30 PM 3:00-3:30 PM We even may have some SLIME!!!!
