African American Lecture Series: “World War I: What is it Good for?”
Sep 19 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
African American Lecture Series: "World War I: What is it Good for?" @ Cullman Performance Hall in the North Carolina History Center | Memphis | Tennessee | United States

World War I was a transformative moment in African American history. Migration, military service, racial violence, and political protest combined made World War I one of the most dynamic periods of the African American experience. The war coincided with the Great Migration, one of the largest internal movements of people in American history.

Culturally, the impacts of the Great Migration changed the impact of life for those migrating to the North, Northwest and the Northeastern parts of the United States.  Observe as we trace those steps and the impact on the nation, African American History, and life during this period while overcoming these obstacles to better their plight in a new found period of victory over oppression.

At the Gallery: McCartney & Lennon
Sep 21 @ 6:00 pm
At the Gallery: McCartney & Lennon @ Bank of the Arts | New Bern | North Carolina | United States

The iconic duo behind the music of the Beatles, Paul McCartney and John Lennon’s songwriting partnership began in 1957 when the pair met at a Church event. The two immediately struck up a partnership that would form the basis of the world’s most iconic band, and produce more than 180 songs. Since the inception of their partnership the pair agreed that all songs written by them would feature both names, and though later disputes would see the alteration of the order and crediting of certain songs, they remain one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century. According the Guinness Book of World Records, “Yesterday” is the most covered song of all time. Hits include “Hey Jude”, “Across the Universe”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Here Comes the Sun”, “Blackbird”, and “Wait.”
