Stuff The Bus
Aug 24 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Stuff The Bus @ Craven County Partners in Education | New Bern | North Carolina | United States

As school begins, school supply lists are made available to students and parents, but not all students are able to arrive the first day of school with the items required to put them on the road to success; some parents simply can’t afford to purchase the items needed.

To assist those students, Partners In Education (PIE), in partnership with Craven County Schools, will have bright yellow school buses and colorful totes set up in front of the three Walmart stores in Craven County on August 24, 2019, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (New Bern – 3105 Dr. M.L. King, Jr., Blvd. and 2915 Neuse Blvd., and Havelock – 566 U.S. 70). Generous shoppers can donate school supplies for students who have been identified as in-need by their school counselors and principals.

Volunteers from the schools and our community will be on hand and honking the horn of the school bus each time a donation is made as a way of showing thanks.

A shopping list will be available the day of the event, is currently available on the PIE website at www.CravenPartners.com, and is listed on the individual schools’ websites.

For those who can’t make it to the event, feel free to drop off school supplies year-round at the PIE office, located in the Craven County Schools Central Services office at 3600 Trent Rd.

Last year, through the generosity of our community, Partners In Education received $32,000 in donations and was able to assist students in all 25 schools. Based on this success, Partners In Education is recruiting the help of all our community partners so that we are able to reach even more students this year.

If you know a student in need of school supplies, contact the principal at your student’s school. All items collected are distributed through the school counselors and principals.

For more information about this event, or how you can support PIE, contact Darlene Brown at 514-6321, or at Darlene.Brown@CravenK12.org. Visit the PIE website at www.CravenPartners.com to learn more about the programs offered by Partners In Education.

Partners In Education is a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation that provides grant funding and special programs to classrooms and schools within the Craven County Schools system.

Quilt Show
Oct 25 @ 9:00 am – Oct 26 @ 4:30 pm
Quilt Show @ New Bern Riverfront Convention Center | New Bern | North Carolina | United States
Friday October 25th 9-5

Saturday October 26th 9-4:30

Come out to view over 300 quilts, multiple vendors, exhibits, the famous Twice Around Treasures booth which has moved upstairs for the added space, the exclusive Guild Boutique and even take a quilt home at the Quilts for Sale booth. The guild’s gorgeous raffle quilt will be revealed!

On Friday, Lynn Gorges, Textile Conservator and Restoration Specialist, will discuss Sanitary Commission Quilts. These quilts were made in the North for wounded soldiers hospitalized right in New Bern. Lynn will share this history at 10am and again at 2pm.

On Saturday, Pepper Cory, will discuss the “The Art of Real Scrap Quilting” at 10:00 am. What defines a scrap quilt today? Are there any boundaries when making a scrap quilt? Then at 2:00 pm Pepper will discuss “On the Trail/Drunkard’s Path”. The classic Drunkard’s Path quilt pattern has an interesting history; it comes to us from England and before that, ancient Rome! All lectures take place in the Berne rooms upstairs.

We challenge all guild members, fellow quilters and community members to fill the convention center with their amazing quilted treasures highlighting the talent here in Eastern North Carolina. Let your artistry, your compassion, your struggle, your growth and your beauty shine as we come together as a community to host a beautiful quilt show and celebrate the resilience of our community.
