A new musical event comes to Eastern North Carolina on October 19th
…the exciting African sounds of Daili Cissokoho & Kaira Ba. When they
emigrated from Senegal to North Carolina, they initiated a musical
collaboration hoping to bridge the Atlantic, connecting worlds
thousands of miles apart but bound by a shared history. Over the past
eight years, Diali and Kaira Ba have produced multiple albums while
touring extensively in North Carolina and America. In 2014, the band
was nominated for the prestigious All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) in
the category “Best African Group” for their album. In 2018 the band
released  Routes , recorded in both North Carolina and Senegal.

Come out to view over 300 quilts, multiple vendors, exhibits, the famous Twice Around Treasures booth which has moved upstairs for the added space, the exclusive Guild Boutique and even take a quilt home at the Quilts for Sale booth. The guild’s gorgeous raffle quilt will be revealed!

This year TRQG will have a special guest lecturer.  On Friday at 2 pm and then again on Saturday at 10 am, Lynn Gorges, Textile Conservator and Restoration Specialistwill discuss Sanitary Commission Quilts.  These quilts were made in the North for wounded soldiers hospitalized right in New Bern.

We challenge all guild members, fellow quilters and community members to fill the convention center with their amazing quilted treasures highlighting the talent here in Eastern North Carolina. Let your artistry, your compassion, your struggle, your growth and your beauty shine as we come together as a community to host a beautiful quilt show and celebrate the resilience of our community.

A 10K/5K/1 Mile powdered COLOR run to benefit the Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center.

2019 Craig Brake Memorial Colors 4 Cancer 10k, 5k and 1 mile run/walk is a color run which benefits the Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center in New Bern, NC. Journey of Hope helps patients and families cope with the emotional, physical, and psychological effects of cancer by offering programs such as peer support groups, survivorship program, art therapy, yoga/exercise, and other various programs. We are a comprehensive cancer resource center in Eastern North Carolina for people with cancer and their caregivers, to let them know they are not alone and we are here to support them in all aspects of this journey. We are a non for profit organization that supports 100% LOCAL people/families.

The race will start & finish at Creekside Elementary School where there will be plenty of parking, and the route will take you through the beautiful Carolina Colours residential neighborhood. Race activities start at 8:30 with announcements followed by a Zumba warmup, followed by the race start at 9 am. Please only runners for the 10K course.


Registration fee for the 10K color run is $40 per participant.

Registration fee for the 5K color run is $35 per participant.

Registration fee for the 1 mile walk is $25 per participant.

Under 5 yrs old is free! But will not receive a timing bib.

Prices will increase to $45 per 10K, $40 per 5K participant, and to $30 for 1 mile walk participants on October 11th.

Registration the day of the event will be available, but tee shirts will be available on a first come first serve basis the day of the event. Registration and packet pick up the day of the event will begin at 6:30-7:30 am on November 2 at Creekside Elementary.

Awards will be given for overall top 3 finishers for the 5K/10K. For the 10K, awards will be to the age group winners by gender for the top 3 in each category: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.  For the 5K, awards will be to the age group winners: 14 years and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ by gender for the top 3 in each category.  Awards will be given out at approx. 9 am.

Packet Pickup
Packet pickup will be held on Friday, November 1, from 4-7 PM at the CCHC Corporate offices at 1020 Medical Park Ave, New Bern.  You can also pick up packets the morning of the race at Creekside Elementary.

New Bern, North Carolina’s Colonial Capital, literally transforms into a wonderland the entire Christmas season. Streetlights and storefronts are decorated and the community comes together to create a magical time for kids young and old. Amid the busy bustle, Adam and Candice Simmons, owners of a downtown New Bern landmark, Morgan’s Tavern & Grill, take time out of their busy holiday schedule for a special day on Saturday, December 7, from 7:00 am – 10:00 am, to serve up over 500 delicious pancake breakfasts for Pancakes for PIE (Partners In Education).

This event has become known all over the region as a “must do” before starting a day of shopping and attending Christmas-themed events held during New Bern’s Beary Merry Christmas season.

Dave Baxter, PIE President explains, “This event is an excellent opportunity for our community to show their support for Craven County Schools. Morgan’s generously donates all proceeds from Pancakes for PIE to fund grant programs in Craven County Schools. The Morgan’s staff, along with PIE volunteers, will be dressed in Christmas-themed sweaters and Santa caps to greet and serve you.”

Brandy Popp, Chair of the PIE Fund Raising Committee explains, “It is so very giving of Adam and Candice Simmons and their employees to provide the staffing, food, and venue for this event. We all know Morgan’s dishes up excellent food and our volunteers are always up for serving some ‘PIE’! We are absolutely thrilled Morgan’s is hosting our 4th Annual Pancakes for PIE and we encourage everyone to bring the whole family and spend the day in beautiful downtown New Bern! We have sent a special invitation to Santa, who will be on hand to share holiday cheer!”

Join us for Pancakes for PIE at Morgan’s Tavern & Grill, 235 Craven Street, downtown New Bern. Breakfast will be served Saturday, December 7, from 7:00 – 10:00 am to benefit Partners In Education. Morgan’s will be festively decorated for the holiday season and is the perfect setting to start your day with pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit, orange juice, coffee, and water. All this for just $7 per adult, and $5 for children 12 and under. Reservations are not required as this is a pay at the door event. Debit, credit cards, checks, and cash are accepted. Please plan to join the New Bern Woman’s Club for our 21st  Annual “The Holly and The Ivy” Holiday Homes Tour on Saturday, December 14th. The tour showcases  lovely historic district homes. Tickets will be available at Bank of the Arts + Harris Teeters for $15.00 prior to the event + $18.00 on the day of the event.  Some tickets will be available (a limited number) at each house. This will be our 20th Annual walking tour which will include 6 houses.  Five will be in the historic district + 1 will be in the Ghent neighborhood.   All funds this year will go to the victims of Hurricane Florence.
