Join us as we take you on a tour of a few of our favorite places to visit, Rain or Shine!

1. New Bern Firemen’s Museum

420 Broad St, New Bern, NC 28560-(252) 636-4087

Museums are a quintessential rainy-day activity. The New Bern Firemen’s Museum allows visitors of all ages to take a step back in time and explore one of New Bern’s longest running and most unique museums. Established in 1955, the museum is inside an original 1928, two-story firehouse designed to preserve the history of firefighting in New Bern, commending the oldest established fire department in North Carolina.  The entire family will love exploring the collection of decade-old fire trucks, experiencing the Great Fire of 1922, the grisly tale of one of North Carolina’s most devastating fires, and learning about Fred, the town’s famous fire horse and an instrumental member of the early 1900’s fire station.  A rainy afternoon is a perfect excuse to check out the hottest attraction in town!

2. Bank of the Arts

317 Middle St, New Bern, NC 28560-(252) 638-2577

Being home to roughly a dozen different art galleries and shops, downtown New Bern welcomes locals and visitors alike to discover how the arts bring joy and enrich the cultural experience in our community! Escape the rain and step inside the Bank of the Arts and be welcomed with an arrangement of beautiful art displays. Located in a former 1913 bank building, the Bank of the Arts has been transformed as a home for an open art space for the region’s talents to shine (even with an overcast.) Be sure to walk through the vault door to find inspiration and learn about New Bern’s unique art scene. The gallery is regularly changing exhibits, hosting special shows, and seasonal art sales you don’t want to miss on your next rainy day adventure.

  • The best spot to go to when it’s raining in New Bern is The Next Chapter Books & Art shop! Come in and have a beverage, curl up in the front reading room with a gently used book and kiss those bad raining days good bye! Next Chapter has an amazing selection of used books and 30+ local authors! From Adult fiction to nonfiction to Young Adult to children used books and non-fiction! The owner also has local artwork throughout the store and a back room that is just waiting for a book club or any meetings/parties you might want to have.
